A panel discussion on how Oregon can confront climate changge by modernizing our forest management laws to better protect public lands and store more carbon in our forests will take place at the Newport Visual Arts Center (777 NW Beach Dr.) from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. on Dec. 12. This event is free and open to the public.
The event is hosted by Oregon Wild, KYAQ 91.7, Central Coast N.O.W., MidCoast Watersheds Council, Audubon Society of Lincoln City, Lincoln County Community Rights, and 350 Central Coast.
Half of Oregon is covered in forests, which absorb and store a tremendous amount of carbon from the atmosphere. This makes our state uniquely positioned to confront the problem of global climate change. Recent research shows that Oregon’s timber industry is a major contributor to climate change, while other studies show the role that old-growth forests and public lands can play in mitigating climate change.
