Parks Session Considers Beach Driving

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission meets online on Thursday, Feb. 25, and one item on the agenda will stand out to those concerned about the beach parking and driving issue.  The commission will consider the proposal to close two areas of shoreline near Pacific City to vehicles. 

The issue comes up late in the day, although the meeting agenda doesn’t give times for agenda components so it isn’t possible to say exactly when.  In any case, this presents another opportunity for those wishing to advocate for open, vehicle-free beaches to comment.  While the official public comment period to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has ended, it is possible to comment directly to the Parks and Recreation Commission.  Early in the day there will be a comment period—written testimony will be provided to the commission at that time.  To comment, send testimony to chris.havel@oregon.gov. In order to be received by the commission, comments must be delivered by 5 p.m. on Feb. 23.
