May is Rise Above Plastics month, and the Audubon Society of Lincoln City is getting the month off to a quick, if grim, start with a showing of the documentary film “Plastic Paradise:  The Pacific Garbage Patch,” on Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m. at Lincoln City’s Bijou Theatre (1624 N.E. Hwy 101).  Admission is free, although donations would no doubt be welcome.

The event has many co-sponsors, including CoastWatch/Oregon Shores.

To quote from a review:  "This timely and informative documentary follows a young and engaging female investigative journalist as she travels to the mid-Pacific to learn about the garbage patch and its impact on the environment. Throughout, she sets just the right tone — telling and showing us the bad news of plastic — and letting us know what we as individuals can do about it." -- Steve Griffiths.  More about the movie here: http://plasticparadisemovie.com/.

Lincoln City Audubon’s Migratory Bird Day (May 11th) Festival theme this year is "Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution." More info here:
