Public Lands Day at Yaquina Head

Want to learn more about Yaquina Head and coastal stewardship?  The Bureau of Land Management will honor the 22nd annual National Public Lands Day by waiving entrance fees at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area on Saturday, Sept. 26. Hour-long service projects will occur throughout the day, along with educational activities both indoors and out.

Tours of the lighthouse will occur hourly between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sign-ups for the 40-minute programs start at 10 a.m. in the Interpretive Center.  Puppets will also join the celebration.  Performances of “The Battle of Plastic,” in which “Sandy Seal and her friends deal with an ocean of plastic while learning good ocean stewardship techniques,” take place at 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Here is the Volunteer Projects Schedule; meet at the Interpretive Center unless otherwise noted:

  9 a.m.  -  Ivy Pull

10 a.m.  -  European Beachgrass Pull

11 a.m.  -  Native Seed Collection

Noon     -  Native Species Planting

 1 p.m.   -  Wayside Beautification

 3 p.m.   -  Beach Clean-up (meet at Cobble Beach)

 4 p.m.   -  Work in the Lighthouse Keeper’s Historic Garden
