Opponents of the LNG (liquefied natural gas) plan proposed for Jordan Cove on Coos Bay’s North Spit are rallying this Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 6 p.m.  The “Seize the Day, Save the Bay” event takes place at Ferry Road Park in North Bend (directly east of the south end of the North Bend McCullough Bridge).

Festivities kick off at the park with a picnic and rally from noon until 2 p.m., featuring speakers and information tables.  Meanwhile at 1:30 p.m., kayakers are invited to gather at the North Bend docks at the foot of California St.  Supply your own equipment.  If you want to join the paddle rally, RSVP here.

At 2 p.m., a march will depart from Ferry Road Park while the kayak flotilla departs from the dock.  The two will meet at the McCullough Bridge, then marchers will cross the bridge while kayakers parade across the bay.  At 4 everyone will return to the park for celebration and live music.

The proposed LNG facility poses many threats, from public safety to global warming.  This rally will focus in particular on the threat to the bay itself from dredging, the pipeline that will cross it and from the operations of the facility itself if it is built.
