Rocky Shores Strategy Discussion

Oregon’s rocky shore habitats are some of the most recognizable and dynamic ecosystems along the coast, and managing these special areas can be challenging. Oregon’s Territorial Sea Plan is the state’s framework for managing coastal resources and the section on rocky shore management is currently being updated. Oregon's Rocky Shore Coordinator, Deanna Caracciolo, will lead a discussion on the ongoing effort to update the state's rocky shore management strategy and how to get involved on Saturday, Feb. 23, 1 p.m. at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center (about three miles south of Yachats). Caracciolo completed a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 2014, where she focused on aquatic invasive species research.  She recently completed her M.S. in Marine Resource Management at Oregon State University, where she researched community resilience in relation to the commercial fishing industry. Deanna has many interests tied to aquatic and marine environments primarily in relation to the coupled human-ecological system that surrounds the coast.  More recently she has expanded from the ecological sciences into social science.  By bridging these disciplines, she has created an opportunity to create a greater understanding of the human dimension in natural resource management and the policies that connected them. She now focuses on the use of collaboration, communication, and group facilitation as tools to aid in management processes and building consensus between diverse stakeholders.

The event is free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport, federal recreation pass, or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and at some trailheads and day use sites.
