Volunteers are needed to participate in a seabird colony survey on Thursday, Aug. 8, 9 a.m. at Sea Lion Caves (91560 US-101) between Florence and Yachats. The survey is conducted by Portland Audubon. Experts will be on hand, and anyone can contribute observations; volunteers are needed to help develop data on nesting cormorants. Expertise isn’t necessary, but “You must be OK looking through scopes for long durations from one location and deal with occasionally windy weather. Must be OK interacting with the public.”
Spotting scopes will be present, but bring your own binoculars or spotting scope if possible. The survey will last between two and four hours.
