Seabird Survey Training
If you like to watch birds and care about their welfare, here’s a chance to study seabirds and contribute to science. Volunteers are needed to monitor seabird nesting colonies near the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve to track nesting success on the coast. This effort provides baseline information on Oregon’s seabird population and increases awareness of Oregon’s marine reserves. The survey project is being organized by the Audubon Society of Portland, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Sea Lion Caves.
A training session is being held on Friday, June 1, 5:30-8 p.m., at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center (2400 Hwy 101), about three miles south of Yachats.
Volunteers are needed to conduct weekly surveys from the week of June 11 until the end of August. The survey area is from Sea Lion Caves to Heceta Head. The minimum commitment is twice monthly, with survey sessions lasting 2-5 hours. There is flexibility to fit your schedule.
