Seal Rock Guided Beach Walk
On Wednesday, Aug. 30, join Oregon Shores' CoastWatch for an educational field experience at Seal Rock. Marine educator Fawn Custer will be our guide as we explore the intertidal wonders of Seal Rock. Fawn earned a BS in science education, a BS in biological sciences, with an emphasis in aquatic marine studies, an MS in environmental education, and an MS in integrated science with post-graduate courses in learning behavior and free-choice learning. She developed and implemented marine science and environmental science lab classes for the Hatfield Marine Science Center, taught high school marine science online, developed invasive species curricula for educators and protocols for interpreters, and trained volunteers regarding intertidal organisms and the marine environment. For five years, Fawn was the CoastWatch volunteer coordinator.
Please arrive at the Seal Rock State Wayside parking lot by 7 a.m. The group will walk down to the beach at 7:05. This walk will be on slippery surfaces and uneven terrain and may include, bending, kneeling, and getting your feet and legs wet. Please come prepared. CoastWatch Program Manager Jesse Jones will also be at this event to answer any questions about CoastWatch Adopt a Mile, CoastWatch Community Science, and CoastWatch in Schools.
