Sedimentation Discussion
The Lower Nehalem Watershed Council hosts Dr. Rob Wheatcroft at its monthly meeting for a talk on “Natural and Human-Related Influences on Sedimentation in Lower Nehalem Bay.” The event takes place Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Pine Grove Community House (225 Laneda Ave.) in Manzanita. Doors open at 6:30; there will be a short council meeting before the speaker takes the floor at about 7:20 p.m. The event is free and open to all.
The presentation will describe how natural processes, such as river flow and coastal uplift, interact with human impact from timber harvesting and land reclamation to affect the supply and accumulation of sediment and organic carbon in Oregon estuaries. While the Nehalem estuary will be the primary focus of the talk, Wheatcroft will also bring in parallel observations from other Northwest estuaries.
Rob Wheatcroft is a professor in Oregon State University’s Graduate Water Resources Program, who specializes in studying sedimentology, seafloor properties, and land-ocean connections.
