Seminar on Increasing Resilience to Coastal Hazards
The Hatfield Marine Science Center’s research seminar continues with a talk on coastal hazards and community resilience. It occurs on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m., in the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building auditorium at HMSC (2030 S.E. Marine Science Dr. in Newport).
This is a hybrid event; use this link to join via Zoom.
The speaker is Alessandra Burgos, Project Manager at Cascadia CoPes Hub.
About the talk:
"How do Cascadia coastal communities increase their resilience to coastal hazards?
Pacific Northwest coastal communities are at risk from earthquakes, including “The Really Big One”, tsunamis, sea level rise, landslides, erosion, and increased precipitation. Stretching from Cape Mendocino, California through Oregon and Washington to Vancouver Island, Canada, these Cascadia communities are calling for “a coordinated research agenda among universities, governmental agencies, NGOs, and others” to help them achieve resilience to these coastal hazards. Join us to learn how the Cascadia CoPes Hub is responding directly to this call to increase coastal community adaptive capacity."
