The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology’s Spring 2020 Seminar Series has moved online.  The public is welcome to sit in through Zoom at no cost.

The first talk in the series comes from Laura Parfrey, an assistant professor and Canada Research Chair at the University of British Columbia, speaking on “Microbiome specificity and turnover in seaweeds and seagrasses.”  It takes place online at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 10.  (Most of the seminars in this series will be on Fridays at this time.)

Research in Dr. Parfrey’s lab focuses on the microbial ecology of eukaryotic microbes (protists) and bacteria. She and her team work primarily in two distinct ecosystems: the mammalian gut and coastal ecosystems. The portion of their work relevant to this discussion is investigating how water column and biofilm microbes colonize marine hosts (invertebrates, seaweed, and seagrass), and how these host-associated microbes impact host and ecosystem health, along the British Columbia coastal ecosystem.

The seminars in this series are free, but are password protected.  For information, or to request the password, contact organizer Aaron Galloway, agallow3@uoregon.edu.  Be sure to allow 24 hours’ notice.
