It will be oyster week in Portland Feb. 2-9, when Ecotrust and other sponsors bring a wide range of oyster-related events to town, all focused on the theme of preserving the oyster industry and restoring native oysters.  Activities range from panel discussions to culinary celebrations to cooking classes.  For details see the festival’s website, https://www.shuckportland.org/.

One event of particular note to coastal conservationists is a Feb. 6 panel discussion, “What the Shell Happened to the Oysters?”  It takes place at Ecotrust’s headquarters (721 Northwest 9^th Ave. in Portland), beginning with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour, and featuring two panels of expert speakers interspersed with an oyster tasting. 

Proceeds from ticket sales to the events and a raffle will go to support wild oyster restoration on the Oregon coast.
