SOLVE Beach Cleanup

This year’s annual beach cleanup had been scheduled for Saturday, March 28, but was cancelled out of concern over the CORVID-19 virus.  It has been re-scheduled for Sunday, July 5, just in time to clean up after the Fourth of July mess.

The coastwide cleanup takes place after low tide, which occurs sometime around 7:15 a.m. this day, depending on where you are.  Start time for the event is probably at 10 a.m., the typical starting time, which leaves several hours before high tide.  No fixed end-time, but typically volunteers work a couple of hours and wrap it up by noon.  The start time has not been officially announced, though—watch this space or go to the SOLVE site (below) closer to the date.

This is a long-time Oregon tradition, in which typically 5,000 people turn out to pick up debris from our beaches.  There are 45 cleanup sites divided into 14 zones, each with a captain (and there are volunteer captain roles still available).  Volunteers are asked to bring their own equipment—gloves, bags, etc.—as much as possible, although these materials will be available for those who need them.
