State of the Coast Conference
The annual review of coastal science and policy, the State of the Coast Conference, is coming to the Salishan resort in Gleneden Beach on Saturday, October 29. Sponsored by Oregon Sea Grant, the all-day conference brings together scientists, conservationists, community leaders, fishermen, and others concerned about our marine environment.
Keynote speaker for the 2016 edition will be Michael Bendixen, videographer and editor with Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Field Guide program. Bendixen, an Emmy award winner, has done many stories that take place at the Oregon coast. He will discuss what it takes to learn about the science before he crafts a story or does the video work the audience sees. He has spent his career focusing on communicating science through art and will share his experiences and tips for how to make a story work.
Other topics to be covered include marine renewable energy, changes in the ocean environment and changes in the ways in which we monitor them, “blue carbon,” algal blooms, and coastal and marine ecosystem services.
The conference features a student poster session. Deadline for submission is October 7.
