Talk on Birds of the Oregon Coast

On Saturday, Jan. 14, 1 p.m., Bandon’s Shoreline Education for Awareness (SEA) offers a talk on “Birds of the Oregon Coast.” The in-person talk (a Zoom option is also available) takes place in the Sprague Room of the Bandon Library (1202 11^th St., S.W.). This is the first talk of the year in SEA’s speaker series.

The presenter will be Alex Cook, refuge manager with the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service in Bandon. She will speak about the birds who call the Oregon coast and its National Wildlife Refuge rocks and headlands home. This presentation will range from seabird colonies on rocky offshore islands to the secretive species of the vegetated marshes of our estuaries.

Alex has worked as an avian biologist on research projects all over the country. She recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Wildlife Conservation from the State University of New York—College of Environmental Science and Forestry. She has worked with a variety of coastal bird species including beach-nesting plovers, saltmarsh-nesting sparrows and Arctic breeding shorebirds.
