As part of the ongoing Research Seminars series, the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) will be hosting Dr. Shawn Rowe, a marine education learning specialist with Oregon Seagrant. His presentation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 3:30 p.m.

Oregon Sea Grant is developing a virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) toolkit to engage students in emergency preparedness for coastal hazards. These experiences focus on earthquake and tsunami hazards and preparedness by partnering with coastal schools that participate in the Oregon State University Precollege Programs. The project incorporates rural, coastal Oregon youth voices and focuses on preparation, evacuation, and post-disaster recovery in the event of a large-scale Cascadia subduction earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Dr. Rowe and his team will demonstrate DIVE4AG, an existing AR/VR program focused on aquaculture. The team will share the development process and upcoming products for coastal hazard preparedness.

These talks are delivered in a hybrid fashion. The event is free, and all are welcome to attend in person in the auditorium of the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building at the HMSC (2030 S.E. Marine Science Dr).  You can also attend online. Register here to attend remotely via Zoom.
