Laura Brophy, director of the Estuary Technical Group at the Institute for Applied Ecology, will speak on “Conserving Tidal Wetlands for the Future” from1-3 p.m. on Monday, January 9, at the Oregon Department of Forestry Office in Tillamook (505 3rd St.).

Brophy, an expert on tidal wetlands, will present the results of modeling that was done on the potential impacts of sea level rise on the tidal wetlands in the Necanicum, Nehalem, Tillamook, Netarts, Sand Lake, and Nestucca estuaries.  Her project was funded by the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board and the U.S. Forest Service’s Coastal Program, and managed by the MidCoast Watersheds Council.  It will provide a new tool that practitioners may use in local restoration and conservation work.
