Dr. Mikhail Matz, from the University of Texas at Austin, will be giving a talk titled, "Epigenetics, schmepigenetics: What DNA methylation actually does when conditions change" on Friday, Oct 26, at 4 p.m. in the OIMB Boathouse Auditorium. Admission is free and all are welcome. This lecture is part of the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology's (OIMB) Fall 2018 Seminar Series.
The Matz Lab at the University of Texas at Austin is focused on trying to understand how populations of reef-building corals adapt to variable environment and to climate change. Thet rely on ecological approaches combined with classical quantitative genetics and genomics (genome-wide genotyping and gene expression). They also investigate coral demography (population sizes and migration rates) based on genome-wide genotyping and coalescent-based analyses. They continuously develop new laboratory and bioinformatic methods for genomics of non-model organisms.
To reach the auditorium, park on Boat Basin Road near the OIMB campus (63466 Boat Basin Rd.) and walk past the Coast Guard housing. For more information about this talk or the seminar series, call (541) 888-2581 or e-mail oimb@uoregon.edu.
