On Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., Friends of Netarts Bay Watershed, Estuary, Beach, and Sea (WEBS) is hosting a talk by Dr. Sarah Henkel. Dr. Henkel is a benthic ecologist at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center and has been tagging crabs to follow their movement. This free talk is open to all and will be held at the Netarts Community Center (4949 Netarts Hwy) and will have the option to join remotely via Zoom.
About the talk:
"The Dungeness crab is an ecologically and economically important species listed by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as an Oregon Conservation Strategy species. These popular crustaceans can be found in a variety of habitats including sand, mud, and eelgrass beds, and range from the intertidal to 180 meters deep. They support a large industry with a retained catch that averages around 17 million pounds in Oregon annually."
