TBA Talk (Probably Octopi)

Eric Edsinger, a research fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, will speak at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 4 p.m., in the Boathouse Auditorium.  The talk will be free and open to the public.

The specific topic of Edsinger’s presentation has not yet been announced.  But he specializes in studying cephalopods, so the probable subject is octopi.  He is working to develop genetic tools to functionally explore the novel, often alien-like systems in cephalopods, including adaptive skin color, jet propulsion, and arms and sucker systems, and to compare octopus and human brains.  He has a certain notoriety for being one of the researchers who has participated in experiments with octopi on drugs (they become more social).
