Volunteer Appreciation at Cape Perpetua
Every fall, the organizations working to protect the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and its surrounding terrestrial environment gather for a volunteer appreciation night. Current and prospective volunteers gather to socialize, network, hear some stories about volunteer work at the cape, and enjoy finger food and beverages.
This year’s event, with Surfrider and Portland Audubon as lead sponsors, takes place on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Yachats Commons (444 Hwy 101, in the midst of Yachats). CoastWatch's new volunteer coordinator, Jesse Jones, will be there--this would be a good chance for CoastWatchers in the area to meet her.
The event is open to all veteran and newly committed volunteers engaging in agency, community groups or NGO efforts within the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas in addition to adjacent special management areas activities. This includes Cape Perpetua Visitor Center and trail docents, Whale Watch volunteers, CoastWatchers, and those working with Surfrider, Audubon, U.S. Forest Service, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and many more!
Audubon Society and Surfrider Foundation will provide some brief updates on developing partnership work at Cape Perpetua. Stop in for a drink or stay the whole time and mingle, this is a celebration of volunteer efforts and all volunteers are encouraged to participate in whatever way suits them.
