Webinar on Reducing Plastic Pollution

Marine debris is of keen concern to CoastWatchers, and everyone else who cares about the ocean and the shore.  Oregon Shores supports the goal of reducing plastic pollution—the primary component of marine debris—at the source.  On Tuesday, Feb. 15, 6 p.m., we offer a webinar on efforts to tackle this key environmental concern.

The speaker will be Bri Goodwin, Oregon Field Manager for the Surfrider Foundation.  She will discuss ongoing efforts to ban single-use plastics throughout the state and how you can be a proponent of plastic pollution bills and efforts to reduce single-use plastics in Oregon.

For years, Surfrider, a longtime partner of Oregon Shores, has introduced plastic pollution bills targeting toxics and key single-use plastics. Local Surfrider Chapters around the state work at the local level in our coastal communities and combine their efforts to pass statewide legislation. Though state legislators decided not to take action in 2021, local governments did. In December of 2021, Newport passed the most comprehensive plastic food container and foodware ordinance in the state and in April, Lincoln City’s polystyrene ban took effect. Many other cities and counties are discussing plastic policies as well.
