Wild Rivers Mushroom Festival
The second annual Wild Rivers Mushroom Festival will be held Nov. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days at the Chetco Activity Center (550 Chetco Avenue) in Brookings. For more information, go to the festival website. This event is sponsored by the Wild Rivers Mushroom Club, and supported by Travel Oregon, The People's Coast, and the City of Brookings. The festival will include an ID table with examples of more than 200 varieties of our region's wild fungi, and offers visitors an opportuntiy to walk away a winner with a silent auction and raffle with hundreds of prizes.
Members of the Wild Rivers Mushroom Club, along with local experts, will be leading field forays and conducting how-to workshops both days. Workshops will include presentations on growing, harvesting, cooking with, eating, and using both wild and cultivated mushrooms.
Renowned mycologist Dr. Dennis Desjardin is the Saturday keynote speaker, and will be presenting "Fungi and Human Affairs: How we interact with fungi in our daily lives."
Mycologist and herbalist Dr. Christopher Hobbs is the Sunday keynote speaker, and will be presenting "Medicinal Mushrooms: A Class for Newbies & Experts Alike."
Vendors will be selling all manner of fungi-related products – including fresh edible mushrooms. Local restaurants and breweries will be offering mushroom-themed meals and spirits all weekend long!
