Wildlife Disease Observer Training

The PRIMED Network (Primary Responders in Marine Emergent Disease) offers an in-person iNaturalist training at Otter Rock Marine Reserve on May 15, 8:30-10:00 a.m. PRIMED needs help to detect new and emerging marine wildlife diseases on the Oregon Coast, and CoastWatch is assisting with outreach to prospective observers. PRIMED members will be on-site at this training session to point out important tidepool species, discuss signs of disease, and walk you through how to use the iNaturalist app to submit your observations to PRIMED.

Social distancing and wearing a mask is required at all times during this event. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the PRIMED leadership team can only accommodate a maximum of 12 people. If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Jesse Jones to RSVP at jesse@oregonshores.org.  She can reserve a spot for you and provide specific instructions.

If you do participate, come prepared with waterproof shoes and the iNaturalist app already downloaded on your phone. 

For those of you who are interested in this event, but cannot attend, or don’t feel ready to use iNaturalist, the PRIMED Network and CoastWatch are planning a virtual webinar that will include an iNaturalist training in the near future.
