The Southcoast Striders offer a hike along the Eel Lake Trail—or rather, two hikes.  The shorter will be four miles out and back on a fairly level trail along the southern edge of the lake.  Those wishing even shorter hikes can turn back earlier.

The longer hike is six miles to the end of the trail and back, at a brisker pace.

Hikers can explore the lake’s many coves and inlets and possibly catch glimpses of osprey, eagle, and deer.

The hike is limited in number of participants and requires registration.  If demand is high and more leaders can be identified, it may be possible to stagger start times for more people.

Meet at the Eel Lake Day Use Area at 10 a.m.  Take Hwy 101 to Tugman State Park (about 18 miles north of Coos Bay, and just north of Lakeside).  Turn in and follow the signs to the day use area.  Bring a lunch to eat in the picnic area at the conclusion of the hike.
