Learn about the ecology of the Oregon shoreline from the author of The Northwest Coast: A Natural History, when marine ecologist Stewart Schultz leads a CoastWatch beachwalk at Moolack Beach, near Newport, on Wednesday, Aug. 11, beginning at 10 a.m.  The event is free and open to all.

Schultz’ book explores our area’s coastal habitats.  During this field trip he will discuss the organisms found on Oregon’s central coast shoreline and just offshore, including the natural materials found in the driftline.  The information he provides will be fascinating to anyone who loves coastal natural history, but be particularly instructive to CoastWatchers.

CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Jesse Jones will also be on hand, to explain CoastWatch monitoring and answer questions about the program.

Moolack Beach is about four miles north of Newport and just south of Beverly Beach State Park. There are several pull-outs off Hwy 101 adjacent to this beach.  Meet Stewart and Jesse at 10 a.m. at the foot of the trail that leads down from the first pull-out area north of the Moolack Shores Inn

Please let us know you are coming.  To register, or for more information, contact Jesse Jones, (503) 989-7244, jesse@oregonshores.org.
