The Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve organization presents a talk on their smallest constituents in “Powerful Plankton, on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln City Cultural Center (540 N.E. Hwy 101). The event is free and open to all.
Marine scientists Becky Smoak and Jennifer Fisher of Oregon State University, along with artist Rebecca Welti, will survey the microscopic creatures that form the basis of the marine food web, and provide a Q&A session. The scientists will discuss the impacts of climate change on plankton, and how increasing ocean temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest are affecting local plankton communities and what that means to each of us, while Welti will display an artistic approach to appreciating the planktonic world.
