The Southcoast Striders hiking group offers a group tour of the Tahkenitch Dunes Trail and Threemile Lake on Sunday, Sept. 26, 9:30 a.m.
Both a long and a short hike are offered. Registration is essential. To register, go here.
Meet at the Tahkenitch Dunes Day Use Area parking lot. This is eight miles north of Reedsport on the west side of the highway (mile post 204).
One hike will travel along the Tahkenitch Dunes Trail to where Tahkenitch Creek empties onto the beach and return along the same trail, a total of 3.5 miles.
More vigorous hikers can complete a six-mile loop combining the Tahkenitch Dunes Trail and Threemile Lake Trail. This hike, difficult due to walking through sand, will last about four hours.
Bring lunch and water, and dress in layers for a variety of possible weather.
