The Hatfield Marine Science Center’s Science on Tap series continues to require that you pour your own, but what is lost in conviviality is gained in accessibility, as people everywhere can now listen in online.

The next Science on Tap event takes place on Thursday, April 21, 6 p.m., with the topic “Inventive feeding tactics shape dolphin societies.”

The speaker is Mauricio Cantor, an assistant professor with the Marine Mammal Institute, based at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.

His description of his topic:

Eating is one of the most fundamental challenges in life. Some animals not only need to navigate their physical environments to find food and acquire skills to best handle their selected items, but they also need to navigate their social environments to decide when to race, share, or fight for their food. By combining great cognitive and learning abilities with a remarkable social life, dolphins are famous for their inventive solutions to these foraging challenges. Join us for a conversation about some of their most creative ways to catch a bite underwater, and how these inventive tactics can profoundly shape the lives of individuals and their societies.”
