Valedictory Geology Lecture
Ron Metzger has not only taught geology to a couple of generations of students at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, he has also educated the community through a long-running Geology Lecture Series he organizes. The series has featured a parade of fascinating speakers over the years. The final speaker in the series this year will be Dr. Metzger himself. He is retiring from teaching, and saying farewell with this final lecture. Or not. The title, after all, is “The Final Lecture? Oribatid Mites, Conodonts, and Musings from Nearly Four Decades in the College Classroom.”
The event, free and open to all, takes place on Saturday, May 21, 7 p.m. in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts auditorium at Southwestern Oregon Community College (1988 Newark in Coos Bay). Noting the question mark in the title, this may not be the last time Ron is heard from, but still, for those who have appreciated his expositions of geology over the years, this is a chance to honor the end of his tenure.
