On Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Oregon Wild is organizing a hike along Tahkenitch Creek to raise awareness for its protection under the River Democracy Act. This hike will take place 12 miles south of Florence in the Siuslaw National Forest and will be lead by Oregon Wild's Western Oregon Field Coordinator, Kelly Fuller.

This location has been proposed for protection as it is a vital habitat for Coho salmon as they travel between the ocean and nearby Tahkenitch Lake and is a favorite among local anglers. This beginner-level hike includes a 1.5 mile loop with minimal elevation gain, some short up and down hill stretches through soft sand.

A donation of $5 per hiker for Oregon Wild members and $10 for non-members is requested but not required. The Forest Service requires a $5 per vehicle parking fee or forest pass.

All participants must sign up individually and fill out the liability waiver and agreement found here.
