LCDC Meeting on Rocky Habitat Sites
The Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC) meets April 20-21 in Salem. It is a hybrid meeting, so it is possible to attend in person or online. The physical location is LCDC’s Basement Hearing Room, 635 Capitol St., N.E., # 150, in Salem.
While the first day of the meeting, on Thursday, April 20 begins at 8 a.m., the item on the agenda that will be of primary interest to those who care about the coast, concerning rocky habitat site designations, is scheduled to take place at 3:15 p.m. Here is the complete agenda.
LCDC will be considering rule amendments that update the state’s Territorial Sea Plan, under Statewide Land Use Goal #19. This is the final step in the years-long process of completely revising and updating the state’s Rocky Habitat Management Strategy. Part of that process was adoption of special protective designations for key rocky shore habitat areas, in response to community-driven proposals. CoastWatch Program Director Jesse Jones has been deeply engaged in supporting volunteers through this process on behalf of Oregon Shores. For more on the site designation process and where we are now, see our website article.
