CANCELLED Transforming Marine Debris Retreat
Heart of Cartm, in partnership with the Oregon Arts Commission, is excited to announce the upcoming "Marine Debris Transformation Retreat." This immersive and inspiring retreat is set to take place from November 3-5, providing a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about coastal conservation, art, and positive change.
Marine debris is a pressing issue affecting communities worldwide, and our coastal haven is no exception. At this retreat, marine debris becomes a symbol of transformation. Whether you're an artist, a scientist, or someone who cares about the coastline, this weekend promises to be a catalyst for change. Attendees will create powerful works of art and writing that can inspire change.
Friday, November 3rd, 3:00-6:00 is the Leaders Lecture with Elizabeth Roberts, marine debris artist and clean oceans advocate; Courtney Edwards, Elakha Alliance; Jesse Jones, Oregon Shores' CoastWatch Program Director; Denise Harrington, 2022 Teacher at Sea for NOAA and Wendy Jackson, American and British psychotherapist.
On Saturday morning, attendees of the weekend retreat will conduct a NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring Assessment shoreline survey, gathering crucial data for future conservation efforts. Then, they take their finds to the Heart of Cartm workshop for transformation. On Sunday morning, attendees will engage in writing and group discussions.
This isn’t just a retreat. Together, attendees and leaders are contributing to a movement of impactful strategies to combat marine debris locally and globally. Your voice and creativity are essential. Participating in this retreat directly contributes to Heart of Cartm's vision of a dynamic culture that actively uses waste as a resource for social, economic, and creative benefit.
