By the end of 2023, it is hoped, the three local governments which jointly administer planning for the Coos Bay estuary—Coos County, and the cities of Coos Bay and North Bend—will have agreed on a final draft of the update to the Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan. (See separate listing for the joint session on this taking place Dec. 7.)

Each jurisdiction will then hold its own hearing on adoption of the plan, which will give members of the public a final opportunity to comment.

The city of Coos Bay will hold its hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 6 p.m., in the Coos Bay City Hall Council Chambers (500 Central Ave., Coos Bay).

A copy of the staff report will be available for inspection at least seven days prior to the scheduled public hearing. A copy of the application (this process is technically an application to the state’s Department of Land Conservation and Development for a “post-acknowledgment plan amendment” or PAPA to the city’s comprehensive plan) with all submitted materials are available for review. Copies of all materials can be provided for a reasonable fee.
