An application to install riprap in Cannon Beach has aroused enough concern that a public hearing will be held. Public hearings on shoreline alteration permits are held by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) when requested by 10 or more people.

The virtual hearing concerns a proposed riprap revetment at 3216 Pacific St. in Cannon Beach, OPRD Ocean Shores Permit Application 3046-23. The hearing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 5:30 p.m. OPRD will gather information from the public based on the submitted application materials.

Stephen and Laurel Day proposed to construct a 60-foot-long riprap structure. (Riprap is a form of shoreline armoring involving rocks placed on a slope to protect the shoreline from waves.) The revetment would protrude onto the public beach. This online meeting will include an introduction from OPRD staff, an overview of the proposal by the applicant, and public testimony.

To register for the event, go here.

For information, or if you need help signing up, contact Allison Mangini, (541) 220-3786, allison.mangini@oprd.oregon.gov, by noon on Dec. 11.

Following the hearing, registered attendees can provide written testimony until 5 p.m. on Dec. 15. Submit testimony to OceanShores.Permits@oprd.oregon.gov, or in writing to Tyler Blanchette, Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept., P.O. Box 2139, Waldport, OR 97394.

OPRD will make a decision on the application within 45 days after the end of the public comment period.
