Watershed Health Presentation in Cannon Beach

The World of Haystack Rock Series is hosting a talk on December 9 by Jesse Jones, former coordinator of the North Coast Watershed Association and currently a consultant to local watershed councils.  Her talk is entitled Perspectives on Ecola Watershed Health.

Lectures in this series, sponsored by the Friends of Haystack Rock, are held the second Wednesday of each month, November to April, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cannon Beach Library, 131 N. Hemlock St.

The December 9 talk will explore many topics about the Cannon Beach area and its watershed, Ecola Creek. Much of the watershed has been protected by the city of Cannon Beach, and its larger ecosystem is important to the communities of Arch Cape and Falcon Cove as well. While many people are fascinated by the natural communities of the area, less is known about the condition of the water. Jones’ presentation will touch on what long- and short-term water quality data has been collected by volunteers and others in the Ecola Creek watershed from 1996 - 2014.  

Jesse Jones was the coordinator of the North Coast Watershed Association between 2011 and 2015. She has been working with watershed councils, water districts, and municipalities in Clatsop and Columbia counties since 2006, assisting with research, outreach, negotiations, grant writing, project management, advocacy and water quality training.   She is currently assisting local watershed councils with organizing water quality data.
