The Rockaway Beach Citizens for Watershed Protection (RBCWP) will host Lisa Arkin, executive director of Beyond Toxics, for a talk on how communities are addressing pesticide issues, at the group’s next meeting, Friday, Sept. 16.
The event, free and open to all, takes place 6-8 p.m. at Tsunami Bar and Grill, 380 Marine Dr. in Wheeler, in the upstairs room. (Dinner may be purchased there.)
Lisa Arkin is a statewide leader in addressing air and water quality issues related to pesticide application. She will provide an update about activities in other communities that are facing similar air and water quality issues. Arkin will also speak about Beyond Toxics' current projects and plans for next year, and the meeting will discuss how RBCWP and Beyond Toxics can work together. For more background on communities facing spraying and other forestry impacts, see the Oregon Forest Voices site.
The meeting agenda also includes local spraying updates and consideration of upcoming events, including plans for an educational vigil. The new RBCWP T-shirts will be unveiled.
