The Kalmiopsis Audubon Society offers an auto tour, botanizing along Game Lake Road, on Saturday, June 24, with participants meeting up at 8 a.m.

Join trip leader Al Collinet for an auto tour that will showcase unique wildflowers that grow in serpentine soils along the road from Hunter Creek to Game Lake. It is designed to maximize flower appreciation for those who can’t do a lot of walking, though the group may take a few short (optional) walks from the road. No prior flower knowledge is needed, and both novices and experts are welcome. The tour will travel up Hunter Creek Rd., past the Snow Camp turnoff, and on toward Game Lake, making many stops en route to study and enjoy flowers. At 3 p.m., the group will turn around and retrace the route back to Gold Beach. If they make it all the way to Game Lake, it will take about two hours to drive back to Gold Beach. (Participants may return earlier as long as they let the trip leader know.) Be sure to bring lunch and enough water. There are no restroom facilities along this road so plan accordingly.

For more info, contact Al Collinet at 541-412-8444 or dewbobal@charter.net . It's best to contact Al ahead of time to let him know you’re coming. That way, he can put you on his email list and let you know if there are any last minute changes.

Meet at 8 a.m. at the Gold Beach Visitor Center (94080 Shirley Ln., central parking section), or at 7:15 a.m. at Dr. Larsson’s office at 414 Alder Street in Brookings to carpool.
