The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Oregon Beach Bill by throwing a beach party at the Capitol, in partnership with the Oregon State Capitol Foundation.  There will be activities, booths, and exhibits on the Capitol Mall—and Oregon Shores will be there, with information for party-goers about how we can protect our shoreline for the next 50.

It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Capitol Mall in Salem.  There will be an exhibit about the Beach Bill in the Capitol itself, and special tours all day.  The event is free—everyone is invited.

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., musician Slater Smith will serenade the coast.  Smith and his band, The Weather Machine, became an internet hit with their song, “Back O’er Oregon,” which they recorded in 185 state parks.  Smith was contracted by OPRD to explore the coast and create songs inspired by the place, which he will perform during this concert.
