The Department of Interior announced plans on Jan. 4 to dramatically expand offshore drilling in U.S waters. The plan targets over 90% of all federal waters for new oil and gas lease sales including the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Gulf of Mexico. There is at least one lease sale proposed for the Oregon/Washington Outer Continental Shelf area, a sale that would take place in 2021.  The Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition will be actively engaged in opposing the plan.

Join us, as Oregon citizens unite to display our opposition to oil and gas development off the Oregon coast! Come dressed in black (if you are able). The first 75 registrants (see registration info below!) will receive a free rally t-shirt! Participants will convene on the Capitol steps for the short rally followed by a press conference with keynote speakers from Oregon's coastal industries, plus state and local elected officials. Transportation from Newport, Coos Bay, Florence and Portland is currently being organized, registered participants will receive information on carpooling options. Following the press conference, participants will continue to the Red Lion Hotel to engage in the Federal Bureau of OceanEnergy Management public meeting and demonstrate our opposition through the town hall meeting.

BE SURE TO REGISTER VIA EVENTBRITE ("Find Tickets" on this event page) TO CLAIM YOUR T-SHIRT.

Location and actions:
2:30-4:00 pm - Capitol Building Stairs - Rally and Press Conference
4:00-7:00 pm - Red Lion Salem - Public Meeting and sign holding outside on the sidewalk

Oil driling would put at risk fishing, recreation, and tourism jobs and billions of dollars in the coastal economy. Development of oil and gas infrastructure, seismic testing, and a potential oil spill are threats to all Oregonians. Coastal communities are on the front line, and it is our livelihoods that are at risk. Our nation does not need new offshore oil and gas extraction. Oregonians are fighting for the protection of our coastline, coastal economy and a clean energy future - join us in uniting this day in Salem to make our voices heard!
