The Oregon Dunes Cooperative Weed Management Area, a newly formed group of federal, state and local agencies, non-profit organizations, and concerned citizens dedicated to controlling and reversing the ecological onslaught of non-native invasive plants, is hold a public meeting on the problem on invasive species in the Oregon Dunes.  The event takes place at the Siuslaw Public Library (1460 9th St.) in Florence, 10:30-11:30 a.m. (or longer with questions after the presentation).  The session is free and open to all.

Participants will learn to identify, report and control non-native invasive weeds in or near the dunes. The presentation will cover potential invaders and existing weeds, and why it is important to stop their invasions.  Information offered will include how to report new infestations using the Invasive Species Hotline.  The goal is to enlist observant citizens in Early Detection/Rapid Response (EDRR), the key strategy in confronting invasive species.

For more information, or to RSVP, contact Armand Rebischke, U.S. Forest Service restoration botanist, at 541-563-8419, arebischke@fs.fed.us.  You are asked to RSVP if you do plan to attend.
