Shoreline Education for Awareness (SEA) is offering an opportunity to learn all about rockfish on Sunday, March 25, 3-5 p.m. at the 7 Devils Brewery (247 S. 2nd Ave.) in Coos Bay. The presentation is part of SEA's 2018 Coastal Education Series. While SEA is particularly focused on training volunteer docents, these educational events are open to the public.
Why Size Matters: Tracking Rockfish at the Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve will presented by marine biologist Tom Calvanese of Oregon State University. Calvanese is also manager of the Port Orford Field Station and part of the Marine Studies Initiative. He will share his knowledge and experiences observing the behavior of rockfishes and the integral part they play in in the coastal environment, including the nearby Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve. Tom is an aficionado of Pacific rockfish genus Sebastes.
