Preparing the region for the inevitable "Big One"--a tectonic earthquake and subsequent tsunami--will be the subject of a talk by Meg Reed, Coastal Shores Specialist with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, on Thursday, May 24, 3:30 p.m., at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (2030 S.E. Marine Science Dr. in Newport) in the Guin Library Seminar Room.  Reed's lecture, Building Tsunami Resilience at the Oregon Coast through Land Use Planning Strategies, will reveal how several Oregon coastal communities are beginning to make local plans for a tsunami event through land use planning strategies and regulations.  The talk is free and open to the public.
