Fawn Custer, CoastWatch’s volunteer coordinator, offers a tidepool exploration and introduction to shoreline ecology and citizen science on Sunday, Aug. 26, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Strawberry Hill Wayside, between Yachats and Florence (about two miles south of Cape Perpetua).  Everyone is welcome for this free event.

Custer will guide participants in learning about the animals and plants that inhabit the rocky shore, and provide background on CoastWatch volunteer monitoring and citizen science projects, including the sea star survey.  Questions encouraged!  Fawn will stick around until 11 a.m., and include a beachwalk as well at some point during the morning, so it is possible to drop by at any point during this period and learn something fascinating about shoreline habitats.

The event is co-sponsored by the Cape Perpetua Area Collaborative, which organizes citizen science efforts in the vicinity of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve.
