This Sunday, Aug. 12, CoastWatch volunteer extraordinaire Karen Driscoll will be on the beach at Otter Rock, demonstrating the citizen science surveys she has been working on and answering questions about the shoreline.
Driscoll will expound on sea star surveys, beached bird surveys, water testing, and Black Oystercatcher observations that she has been conducting. Karen is always happy to welcome anyone who’d like to join her. She will be down on the beach from 7:30ish to 10 a.m. Find her by parking near the restrooms in the community of Otter Rock and then heading down the trail to the beach on the north side of Devils Punchbowl.
Later in the day, Dave Powell, another CoastWatcher active in citizen science, will lead the Marine Debris Survey, following NOAA protocols, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. This survey begins at the concrete stairwell at the base of the Inn at Otter Crest and includes the area to the waterfall.
