Tufted Puffin Presentation
Join the Yaquina Birders & Naturalists for a presentation about Tufted Puffins--the status of the species and the research that is being conducted on the Oregon coast. This event, free and open to the public, is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the OSU Extension Lincoln County headquarters (1211 SE Bay Blvd, Newport). The presenter is Shawn Stephensen, USFWS Wildlife Biologist for the past 29 years.
Tufted Puffin populations have been declining throughout the southern portion of their range from British Columbia to northern California. Possible causes of puffin decline include factors related to conditions at breeding sites, at-sea mortality due to direct human impacts, and long-term changes in marine food webs. Learn about current efforts to study the puffin by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and its partners.
