Oregon Dunes Talk

Dina Pavlis, perhaps Oregon’s leading dunes maven (and a CoastWatcher and Oregon Shores member), will lecture on the landscape of the Oregon Dunes in Eugene on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 6-8 p.m. at the Claim 52 Brewing and Taproom (1030 Tyinn St., Suite 1).  Her talk, sponsored by Oregon Wild, is free and open to everyone (children as well).

Pavlis, author of “Secrets of the Oregon Dunes,” is a photographer and interpreter of the Oregon Dunes.  She is also a key member of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative. 

Spanning more than 40 miles, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is the longest expanse of coastal sand dunes in the United States. Stretching from Florence to Coos Bay, the Oregon Dunes attract more than a million visitors each year and harbors unique habitats for many plants and animals amid the temperate rainforests of the Oregon Coast range. Pavlis will explore the dunes environment, why it is vanishing, and how stakeholders and volunteers are partnering with the U.S. Forest Service to save this exceptional landscape.

Food and drinks are available for purchase at the event at Claim 52 Brewing’s taproom. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the presentation begins at 6:30 pm.
