King Tide Preview

Those in Curry County who would like to learn more about the King Tide volunteer photography project and what it can tell us about sea level rise and erosion—or who are just looking for a good time!—have an opportunity on Thursday, Jan. 17, when we bring a King Tide preview party to Arch Rock Brewing (28779 Hunter Creek Rd.) in Gold Beach.  The event is open to everyone.  There is no charge (although a $5 donation would be appreciated).

CoastWatch and the state’s Coastal Management Program, our usual partner in organizing the King Tide Project, are happy to welcome some additional partners for this event.  The Lower Rogue Watershed Council and South Coast Watershed Council are participating in the project this winter, and are co-sponsoring this event in order to familiarize their members and other south coast residents with the project.

The festivities kick off at 6 p.m.  We’ll provide the appetizers; other food and beverages are available from Arch Rock Brewing.

At 6:15, Meg Reed, Coastal Shores Specialist with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD), will provide an overview of the King Tide Project, explain why documenting these highest tides of the year is important, and provide a brief training on how to participate.

At 6:30, Briana Goodwin of the Surfrider Foundation will show and discuss aerial photos taken during the king tide series last year.

Things will wrap up at 7:30 with a few final words and a raffle.
