Talk on Climate Action

The MidCoast Watersheds Council, Hatfield Marine Science Center, 350 Oregon Central Coast, and the Citizens’ Climate Lobby Newport Group are joining together to present An Evening with Mary DeMocker -- Why We Can Still Build a Thriving Future—and 3 Easy Ways You Can Help on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at the Hatfield Marine Science Center's Hennings Auditorium (2030 SE Marine Science Drive, Newport). Admission is free to the public. 

Author Mary DeMocker will present a talk about the global movement for a livable planet, and why she believes it’s unstoppable, unifying, and easy to support right where you live. This presentatio focuses on the power of keeping up hope and easy things that all of us can do to make a difference. She will also discuss the importance of natural resource restoration. The goal is for audience to leave with at least three action ideas that fit into even the busiest life.

Mary DeMocker helps people work effectively for a livable planet. Her new book, The Parents’ Guide to Climate Revolution (foreword by Bill Mckibben) has been called “an essential resource” by Sierra Magazine, featured on Yale Climate Connections, and recommended  in a New York Times article. She has designed and co-led youth-centered climate protests featured on PBS NewsHour, ArtCOP21 (the 2015 London-based global climate art festival ), and in an Avaaz video shown to world leaders entering Paris climate talks. DeMocker is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient and winner of the 2008 Kay Snow Award for non-fiction, as well as the co-founder of 350.org Eugene.
